This October we are showing a selection of band photography images by David Wala in the High Bridge Works Reception.
David Wala has been photographing musicians and bands for over 20 years. His photographs on display here are a mix of live events and on location photoshoots. David has photographed a variety or famous faces, and emerging talents in the music industry as well as the local north-east music scene. He has an inherent ability for capturing the dynamic energy of performers.
Although the majority of David’s work is digital, he has used his Hasselbald 500 (analogue) medium format camera and an old-style squeeze ball shutter release that he places in the hands of his subject. Presented here on the end wall of the gallery space, these unconventional photographs give ownership of the image to the subject, it’s up to them when to take the shot.
David’s photography has been published on books covers, album covers and magazines, including Ralph Ellison’s novel ‘Invisible Man’ and the Decemberists ‘I’ll Be Your Girl’ album.
Drop by Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm to view.
