Sounds of the North East

Big Beat Manifesto returns to NCA for their second collaborative exhibition, once again platforming the frenetic spirit of Newcastle’s creative culture through the intimate lens of nightlife photography. The exhibition integrates a broader range of artists, covering all aspects of the nightlife industry through photography, videography, art, and music in the biggest grassroots collaboration that the North East has ever seen. Creating a shared platform for emerging and established artists, labels and brands.

The party on 4th October will display a microcosm of this nightlife, transforming the gallery space into a nightclub, with music provided by Newcastle’s best local collectives, using a HiFi sound system.

The Knick, The Snare, The Hat & A Clap

The Kick, The Snare, The Hat & A Clap by artist and filmmaker Susie Davies explores the history of the 90s rave scene in Newcastle. Focusing on activity in the Ouseburn Valley, the film features unseen archival footage and interviews with those who participated in the scene.

The documentary provides an historical context and perspective as to how the rave scene rose into being through the bonds and inventiveness of its community and their use of a once-overlooked post-industrial area of the city that has now become a thriving cultural hub.

Jesus Loves The Acid

Jesus Loves the Acid is a new exhibition of work by prolific Newcastle based street artist Bobzilla, that combines a refreshing style of street art and surface pattern, which is highly visible throughout the North East utilising experimental practice with newly developed techniques across various surfaces.

The exhibition showcases Bobzilla’s creative output from the last 18 months, including paintings, sculptures, and specially prepared installation-based pieces. These new works merge a raw street art energy with more precise studio techniques to deliver a refined body of work.
